Founded in 1920, soon after the unification of the Romanian territories, in a European context marked by the state redefinition and the tsars of the First World War, the Polytechnic School of Timisoara - as it was called at first - was the answer for one of the requirements formulated by the Romanian society of the time, namely the training of engineers.
The Polytechnic University of Timişoara, a university of advanced research and education, is today one of the Romanian schools with a tradition, recognized both nationally and internationally, both through the work of teacher generations and through the activity of except for prestigious academics. In the spirit of tradition, the mission of the Polytechnic University of Timişoara is to meet the requirements of competence of the social environment, by ensuring higher professional education at university and postgraduate level. The faculty, departments, chairs, institutes and research centers, laboratories, libraries, dormitories, canteens, sports facilities, as well as technical and administrative services, publishing houses and printing houses are included in the structure of the Polytechnic University of Timisoara , the student's polyclinic. The 10 faculties of the university provide study programs for approximately 13500 students. Within the 25 departments, nearly 700 teachers work, and administrative and auxiliary staff have around 500 staffs.

The university campus includes 16 student hostels offering 6500 accommodation places, approximately a student canteen, a student polyclinic, and two high performance sports facilities.
